Given the dates of cars now being discussed, is this the STMFC or the BBFCL? Moderators? James Dick - Roseville, MN

Tim: I'/ve only researched the origins of the NP leased cars, not the GN cars.
To your list add ex-N&W B-3 class, 50-ft, round roof, double sliding door boxcars (NP series 39610-39759). These differed in door opening width, door type, side panel and side sill configuration from the 50-ft round roof leasers originating from DT&I. The NW cars also got replacement steel running boards, whereas the ex-DT&I cars retained wood running boards. Also most (but not quite all) of the rebuilt NW cars got NP Ry monad heralds, whereas the ex-DT&I round roof leasers (PRR X31s and X32s per the Bowser HO models) did not. Note, the round roof leaser series referenced above were rebuilt in 1961 at DT&I's Jacksonville shops, and stenciled as leased by Buffalo Railway Equipment. Co., an A.A. Morrison affiliate. Greenville Steel Car rebuilt the Erie and DLW-origin lots in 1962-63 and 1967 (the latter were ex-LV blt 1947 PS-1s rebuilt with 10-ft door openings and diagonal panel roofs). The Greenville rebuilds were leased by A.A. Morrison Co., and stenciled accordingly. Beware that certain of what ended up as NP series of leased rebuilds of ex- Erie and DLW cars had mixed origins, thus inherited differing roofs, ends, and slight variations in interior heights. And the ex-DLW cars in series 38168-38667 had a mix of Youngstown and Superior style doors, varying from car to car (Red Caboose did a nice all-Youngstown door version in HO). So a single photo of an NP leaser doesn't necessarily give an accurate picture of the series as a whole. I don't know if the GN Morrison leasers had similar variations within series. -- Chris Frissell Polson, MT |

A.A. Morrison also purchased well worn hopper cars from the northeastern rrs. GSC was contracted to rebuilt many of these cars too. These also found their way to a variety of western roads as leased cars.

Which NW lines ? I know many NP cars were ex-Erie, ex-DL&W, ex-LV, ex-DT&I. GN had ex-PRR, ex-EL. Do you know others? Thanks On 12/19/2022 3:53 PM, leakinmywaders via groups.io wrote: A.A. Morrison Co. purchased worn out boxcars from various NW lines and relied on Greenville shops to rebuild many of them during the 1960s to specifications requested by NP and GN (at least). Morrison leased the rebuilds to those roads to help meet the burgeoning demand for boxcars suitable for lumber loading. Those cars typically had the word "REBUILT" inside the diamond logo. --
