In the late 1970’s or early 1980’s I’d met Charlie Winters who was working as a NW switchman in North Kansas City. Charlie had started his career with the Wabash. Charlie had a large steam locomotive collection and I was interested in the Mopac he had but also learned through our basement discussions he also had a large collection of freight car and MP Caboose negatives from the steam era. That’s when I started my own trip down the early freight car ‘rabbit hole’. As we know many of George’s images have appeared over the years in magazines and books on our favorite topic some merely credited to Charles Winters Collection. Here’s a letter from Charlie providing the background on George Sisk and thankfully his interest in the freight car.
