Gents, My friend who could 3D print the ACF 70 ton hoppers in S scale has located drawings in his copy of Train Shed Cyclopedia #71. So, we'll see how this progresses. S scale with its much smaller market can benefit from the smaller runs possible by 3D printing for sure. Thanks for all the responses! Bud Rindfleisch |

Tim O, Not quite sure how to search the Barriger site for drawings? Any idea? Bud Rindfleisch |

Thanks for all the good answers to Bud to help out the S scale project.

Gordon was an amazing modeler. :-) I would think drawings of these extremely common cars would not be hard to find. How about these guys? https://www.umsl.edu/mercantile/barriger/index.html On 1/20/2023 4:31 PM, Bud Rindfleisch wrote: Hello all, --

Bud RPC-27 covered this car in great detail. I have about 125 ACF factory drawings that have been scanned that I can furnish. Bud pls contact me off list Mark_Landgraf at Yahoo dot com

Bud,
You should be able to purchase an ACF General Arrangement drawing from the Museum of Transportation Library in St. Louis. For example, 620-05014 is the GA drawing for a Rock Island 70 ton covered hopper.

Ed Hawkins should be able to help you, too.

Bud,
Wayne Sittner had an article with drawings covering these cars in the March 1983 RMC.

Bud,
Offhand, I don't recall any plans for such cars. I would suggest looking at Car Builders Cycs from the 1940s and 1950s, the time-frame when such cars were built. The other thought might be to inquire of the ACF and Pullman-Standard company archives, as both built such covered hoppers. Greenville did, too, bu I don't know if their documents have been saved anywhere. Todd Sullivan |

Hello all,
I'm looking for scale drawings for the ACF 70 ton covered hopper with the "triangular openings" (for lack of a more proper description!). Model Railroader in June 1955 had a "Dollar Car" scratchbuild article for this car by Gordon Odegard. I have someone who wants to 3D print them in S scale. So anyone know where I might find drawings? A scan of the car in question from that article attached, hope there's no issue with copyrights? Bud Rindfleisch |
