I’ve been kicking around an idea with Hubert Mask on having a decal set made with the most common weight locations by railroad. I have a comprehensive list of Mopac locations but would need help with the other railroads. I told Hubert I’d be happy to compile a list if the group members would send me the top six or eight locations. Obviously I don’t want the full name but the ‘short name’ the railroad used in there stencil. As example for the MP Kingsville was KV, Alexandria was ALEX. The decal sheet would be alphabetized by railroad so if you are wanting to restenciled a ATSF boxcar it would be easy to find. He’ll also include a set of light weights.
So the .io list isn’t filled with responses to this topic you can send your railroad name and weigh locations to me (omahaduck (at) gmail (dot) com)
thanks for helping. -- Charlie Duckworth Omaha, Ne.

Champ decals did this. They subdivided the railroads by region, and then provided reweigh codes for each railroad. They also provided a separate sheet of reweigh dates.

I have used the spreadsheet (posted by Jim Brewer) as a
reference many times and I can't recall any errors - Most
of the time the problem is finding decals to match the symbols.

Earlier this year, Jim Brewer spend quite a bit of time updating this spreadsheet, garnering many corrections and additions from multiple sources. There is a May draft in the files section of this group, but it is the July revision that you would want. That version has been posted to both the Resin Freight Car Builders and and Plastic Model Freight Car Builders groups. Dave,
I attempted to post it to the Real STMFC files but couldn't; I believe I did forward it to the moderators and requested they post it; if for some reason my memory is incorrect I'd be glad to forward it to the appropriate moderator for posting to this group's files.

Yeah, one of the drawbacks of the Champ sheets is that the style of the letters and numbers does not match some of the newer, finer, decal efforts. But it is way better than nothing. I have thought about custom printing reweigh dates just for my era of modeling.

Ed Hawkins reminded me that the railroad’s stencils were different so I’ve added a column so the font will be different based on photos. As I mentioned, I’m only selecting the most common weigh stations by railroad and plan to have only 6-8 stations for the larger roads. My cut off year is 1960 and start year is 1935. I did find the reweigh list in the files folder and have it as a starting point. Also adding tare weights to the list based on photo sources.

Garth Groff and Sally Sanford <mallardlodge1000@...>
Bruce,
At least Champ did TRY to match the lettering style to each road's preference. Their sheets included Railroad Roman and Gothic "fonts", and to some extent the sizes reflected the railroad's style. I'm sure they made some booboos, but it was a good attempt.
On a related topic, I would love to see a sheet with a selection of data for various classes of tank cars, test dates, etc.
Yours Aye,
Garth Groff 🦆

Hubert
The Union Pacific needs white, black, red and yellow reweigh
shop stencils, lube stencils, freight car classes, built dates,
and actual load limit and light weight stencils both pre-1963
and post-1963!! (Gross Rail Load values increased for all
freight cars in 1963 and every car had to be reweighed and
restenciled)
I'm just sayin' :-)
But I'd be very interested in the above. And there are other
roads that need multiple colors too. And you could figure out
how to compile all that on a sheet for one major railroad (or
set of roads) then use that layout as a 'template' for other
roads.
In my opinion you can cover a lot of territory with "roman" and
"gothic" type because the sizes are so small - 1" 2" 3" so
fine distinctions are a lot harder to see and don't matter
unless you're building a museum piece. But there are exceptions
I'm sure like NYC and PC modern styles etc.
