Stephen I don’t want to guess; can you provide the 6-8 most common Santa Fe scales for light weights?

Hi Charlie,
My take on the 7 most important NP shop and weigh stations are BD - Brainerd, MN CO = Como Shops, MN LR = Laurel, MT PA = Pasco, WA PW = Parkwater, WA SE = Staples, MN ST = South Tacoma I'm sure others may chime in and correct or add others. Todd Sullivan |

Charlie,
After extensive review (over lunch, looking at some photos), the PRR's top scale codes are:
Hands down winners, as in the VAST majority of cars show these three (Which makes sense, given the location of PRR car shops):
P50 PRR Enola PA
P57 PRR East Altoona WH PA Altoona
P62 PRR Hollidaysburg, EB PA
Well represented, but not as much as the above (and also allowing the inclusion of some Lines West scales):
P205 PRR Hump, Metal Yard PA Pitcairn
P330 PRR West Side PA New Castle
P441 PRR Car Shop IN Ft. Wayne
P712 PRR Terre Haute IN New Shop
Note that in providing these 7, you provide all of the digits needed to bash your own code from 1 to 776.. If you were to slip in a couple of 8's and 9's, you could basically bash any PRR scale code.

Charlie,
I’m aware that the NKP did a lot of car repair at Brewster, Bellevue, Conneaut, OH and Chicago.

Thanks for all the responses on the common scales. All that’s remaining is the C&O, GN, Milwaukee, Seaboard Air Line and Southern. Just send these to omahaduck (at) gmail (dot) com I went though my photos this week and will scan the images I have for Humbert to match the lettering. Any gaps I’ll ask for help. |

Charlie, One of the C&O's most common marks was RA for Raceland, Kentucky. That was their biggest car shop. Some Southern locations I spotted in photos are CR, K, MDN, HE, ALX (likely Alexandria, VA), AUG (Augusta, GA?), BN, JAX (surely Jacksonville, Fl), INM, ATL (Atlanta), TUSCA (Tuscaloosa?), LP, CIN. HE seems to most common, followed by JAX. I would also go for AUG and ATL, as they are recognizable and scream "South!".
