German Word Translation in Kit Instructions

Nelson Moyer

I pulled out my first Artitec kit to use as a freight car load, and found that the instructions are mostly pictorial. There is a small amount of text rendered in three languages including English, but one word is German word is not translated – Mengverhoudingen. This word could not be translated by my iPhone app, and it is not in my German/English dictionary. Google translation could not provide a translation. I would appreciate it if one of our German speaking friends would provide a translation.

Well that explains why German dictionaries/translation services didn’t recognize it. So apparently, the three languages are Dutch/German/English, because I recognize the German and English words, but not the other Dutch. The Dutch translation is Mixing Rations of much, equal, and little with three, two, or one asterisk, respectively, however there are no other asterisks in the instructions to indicate which Humbrol colors get which dilution factor. I guess that means I use all seven colors undiluted. I used the attached color conversion chart to determine equivalent Vallejo colors for the Humbrol colors given in the instructions.

Thanks, Pierre, for pointing me in the right direction. The ..houd.. should have been a tipoff, as it’s like Gouda. I spent a pleasant week touring the Netherlands in 1972, and I should have recognized the language, though I don’t read or speak it.

The real tipoff should have been that Artitec is a Dutch company. 😁
