Gould 4 course tank car tooling

No, the use of a 4 course tank body allowed the use of flat mold construction where the conical rivets won't be trapped coming out of the mold. Years later Intermountain was able to mold a 3 course tank without rivet trapping with careful slide construction. Sometimes the biggest challenge to mold making is considering how the part will be rejected.

Dennis,
You are suggesting that he chose a tank with longitudinal lines to help disguise the mold split lines?
Certainly would make things easier for the mold designer and the tool maker and tool maintenance.

Fred Brummet was quite proud of that mold. He told me the side actions pulled at 120 degrees rather than the usual 90 for just that reason.
