HH Reporting Mark Help

Peter Muto

All,
I have records of an industry that I am modeling that list all the cars shipping out product. One of the cars listed was HH 32578. This car shipped crush lime from the Bellefonte, PA area on 27OCT48, and is more than likely a boxcar based on the records of this industry. From what little I have been able to gleam online, this is the reporting mark of the Himmelberger-Harrison Manufacturing Company. I found a picture of a Plymouth critter owned by the business, but that's it. Any help would be appreciated in hunting down what this car is, even an ORER description would be great. Thanks for any help.

All,
After someone messaged me offline, I took another look and I think the reporting marks are NH instead of HH, so I apologize for creating a false lead. Translating handwriting from 70 years ago is always interesting, frankly if it was cursive I'd have an easier time!

Peter,

They had trouble deciphering hand written logs back in the day as well. I came across ana AAR detention report on tank cars at Port Chicago during November1944 in the National Archives. The report had been typed, but it had a NEOX 238 tank in the mix. No such mark in the ORER. A bit of deduction and a little help from a friend led to the conclusion that it was either a typo or misread from WEOX. I wrote a blog post about sources and how I came to that conclusion a few years back. https://northbaylines.blogspot.com/2013/05/sources.html

Per a table of NH boxcars that Peter Ness prepared and posted on his blog, https://sites.google.com/view/newhavenrailroad1959/new-haven-freight-cars, NH 32578, was a AAR 1937 design boxcar built in 1944 by Pullman Standard.
