I'm not a Rocket Scientist, but...



You know, it seems pretty simple why tank cars get dirty fast...and stay dirty. They don't have a flat bottom that traps most of the junk coming up from the track like a box car or a flat car. All the dust, dirt, mist, water, etc. just rolls right up the side of the car as the train moves along, and all the same crap filtering down just rolls down the car with no eaves or sills to stop it from messing up the entire side of the car.

Just thinking out loud...
