Paul, attached are color photos taken by Jack Delano in Chicago circa 1942-43. The cars are immediate predecessors of the 6000 series. The major difference was the application of steel ends on the 6000 series cars, but the paint scheme remained the same. MDT, a subsidiary of the NYC rr, began using gothic script in the mid-1950s but again the color scheme remained the same. I'm guessing the white scheme often seen on models was only used to show off the newest equipment and was replaced with the orange scheme as the cars were refurbished periodically every 5 to 7 or 8 years. Be advised that the  Sunshine kit is based on the 8000 series of cars of which a smaller quantity were built. Rood and Ends and car height do not match the earlier 6000 and 7000 cars.

Hmmm, if the Sunshine kit is off in terms of roof, ends and height, is the prototype closer to a Red caboose PFE R-30-x  reefer?  I haven't done a dimensional analysis using ORER dimensions, but the biggest visual difference seems to be the channel end sill and slightly shorter door on the MDT.

I'm sure others will tell me all the other things wrong with that proposed kitbash, but then ... that's how we collectively learn, so bring it on!

O Fenton Wells

Todd, you go guy. Bash that car and share your efforts I’d make one as well
