[NPModelers] steel reefer paint schemes of 1940s/ 50s?
Johannes
In my opinion (I own brass and plastic) the Intermountain R-40-23 is a superior model in almost
every possible way. These Challenger reefers were pretty awful models. Barf city.
By the way, the brass example (attached) is an R-40-25 not a -23, but the comment still applies because
Intermountain also offers an R-40-25 model. ( The roof is different. The -25 was built in 1949, and the
-23 in 1947. ) The other brass model is a -23, but it represents a repainted car.

Hello friends,
I am considering purchasing a H0 Challenger Imports brass NP steel reefer, similar to the PFE R-40-23, but I don't know the designation used by NP. They imported two versions:
https://www.brasstrains.com/BrassGuide/PDG/Detail/19073
https://www.brasstrains.com/BrassGuide/PDG/Detail/19071
Of course I see the differences between the two, and that one of them has a reweigh date of 1957, which is too late for my modeling. Is that paint scheme correct for earlier years so that I only would have to change the reweigh date? Or is the other version ("Mainstreet of the Northwest") the car I should look for?
Many thanks and best regards
Johannes

Thanks, Tim,
but unfortunately I am no further than before. First - okay, you couldn't know - the model HAS to be brass because the whole train is brass. Second, I only have heard or read that the PFE versions of that model (or all these models? R40-10/ -23/ -25/ -26?) is inaccurate - but only its lettering. Please give a couple hints as to what exactly is so awful - I don't get it even with the prototype photo you did include. Yes, I see that the dimensional data looks somewhat different, and the small tack board is at another location - but these are small (and easy to correct) flaws. What are the real problems?
Thanks again
