Recently I upgraded this New York Central boxcar that I built from an O-scale Intermountain kit in 1992. It now has new roof walks, uncoupling levers, flexible brake hoses, brass sill steps, and placards. For thirty years its only weathering was a little Dullcote. This time I weathered it more heavily with Tamiya acrylics, AIM powders, and Pro Art colored pencils. |

Wow. That model looks great! I really like the color tone achieved on the running board.

Richard that is a great looking model. I agree with Eric regarding the running boards. How did you achieve that perfect weathered wood look? Dave Lawler Avon Lake, Ohio

I brush-painted the Evergreen-styrene-strip roof walks with Craftsmart "Deep Grey" acrylic paint from Michaels. The next day I applied thin washes of Tamiya "German Grey" and "Flat Earth" acrylics, followed by a light application of AIM "Grimy Black" weathering powder that I sealed with Testors Dullcote. Thank you Richard, I'm going to try it in HO and see what I get. I think O Scale is better for making things look real.
