P2k Mather 40' SS Muncie and Western box car MWR 1272

I recently bought a P2K Mather 40' boxcar. Car Number MWR 1272. Weigh Date is Mather at Chicago Ridge 9-48. My 1950 Westerfied OER shows the car but the 1959 Westerfield OER shows all steel 40' boxcars. I model 1957-1967 and want to see if this car made it to 1957. It's a really nice model and regardless it will stay in the collecton. Any help on dating this will be much appreciated

Happy Thanksgiving,

My January 1958 ORER shows 8 cars in the series MWR 1281-1299 and 62 cars in the series MWR 1101-1265. That leaves out MWR 1272. Anyway, as I recall the  prototype of the P2K Mather cars were not as tall as the prototype MWR cars. In other words, the model is a slight foobie.

Bill, the July 1957 ORER shows 75 cars in the MWR 1201-1275 listing.  Inside height was 8'-8".

The next ORER (October 1957) maintains that same info.

Thanks guys. Looks like I lucked up re the date. Also I measured what would be the IH and it's 8' 8" on the model. I think there was a Sunshine model of the mather boxcars that was taller.

I recall that one of the P2k matcher cattle cars had some minor dimensional compromise so both double deck and single deck cars could be made from the same body.

Sorry should have read the header more carefully

Bill, there was indeed a 'tall Mather' kit from Sunshine, kit 103. See attached for details.

Sunshine also produced kits 6.1 to 6.4 which were 7-8, 8-0, 8-5 and 8-7 Mather box cars :-)

And both single and double deck Mather stock cars (I think the Proto 2000 kit was a double deck?)
