Parts-built PFE Class R-30-24 reefer

I’ve recently completed building a plywood-sheathed PFE Class R-30-24 reefer in HO scale, and described the parts of the build that were unusual or perhaps needed explanation. The car is shown in the attached photo. It was described in a 5-part series on my blog. If you’re interested, a link is below to the concluding post, and it links back to previous ones.

Nice car. Those doorway sill steps remind me I have a PFE reefer on the workbench with broken (plastic) steps...

Tony!  I don't know what I like best,  the refer or the junk yard.

Thanks, BIll. You do of course know what’s in the junkyard.

I don't see any -"hook and horn" couplers.  What makes this scene so creditable is the subtle variety in the components.  Very well done.

I immediately noticed the X2F's when you pointed out the junk pile! I must have 10 gondolas' worth of them... :-D

Exactly my own situation, and the exact reason for the junkyard.
