The PRR had around 3,000 of these cars, and they became FGEX reefers in the early 20s

In about 1938-39 rebuilt about 100 of these into all-steel cars that looked very similar to a tall "X29". A few years earlier FGE ripped off the old superstructure and replaced w/a new one dimensionally similar to FGE's 1926 design with their familiar Hutchins roof.  Many of these were stenciled "FDEX" meaning the cars had permanent interior collapsable decking systems, one of two groups of wood sheathed cars so equipped. The third group were 50 all-steel reefers very similar to a PFE 40-10, ART's first steel reefer, and other initial steel reefers of the day.
