It turns out there were TWO nearly identical classes -- the FM8 (70100-70199 1923) and the
FM9 (70200-70299 1926). The FM8 had the angle iron, while the FM9 did not !

In the 1959 ORER, the two classes are lumped together, and only 6 cars remained in service at that time.
The FM8 #70164 still existed in service in 1959, as photographed by Colonel McCoid at Fort Bragg.

Richard Hendrickson numbered his TICHY kit as an FM8, which is incorrect. Who knew? :-)

The two different NC car classes also rode on different trucks. The FM-8 builder photo shows the car on ARA cast steel sideframes. An FM-9 build photo shows the distinctive Dalman two-level trucks.
 
The as-built brake hardware is different, too. The FM-8 cars had KD systems while the FM-9 cars had KC hardware.
 
I think the image of NC&StL 70335 is of a 1912 built car. They had Andrews trucks and looked similar to the later car classes. Note it does not fall into the car series that Tim shared.

Also, I have a side view of the NC flat car with the tank load. The car has the same chalk mark scribble over the letter C on the side sill. The car number is 70035, not 70335. It is an FM-7 class NC&StL flat car built in 1912.
 
The image file note National Archive of Canada (PA202871). This came from Bill Welch in 2017 when I was building the Tichy flat car kit.
