QUESTION ON SANTA FE STOCK CARS

WILLIAM PARDIE

I purchased the above Westerfield model some time ago.  Whoever built it did an excellent job.  I do, however, want to update the lettering to the later sachem.  Most ( if not all) of these cars came equipped with hatches on the roof and drop bottom do the floor.  They were used for hauling coke when not carrying cattle. My question is if these features were retained when the cars were updated?

Thanks for any help:

The answer is…… yes and no.  SK-L, N, and P (virtually identical) cars were updated twice. Some received new roofs, some did not. Some kept the Caswell drop doors, some had then welded shut, some had them replaced with regular flooring. Some received an entirely new appearance, some did not, but they all kept their class identity. So this car is okay into the 50s, realizing that AB brakes were required in interchange after 1/1/53.
