RCW ATSF mini-kit

Finished the model today. I'm curious if anyone else experienced difficulty deciding which decals to use? Or, if you had the same slogan as shown in the instructions?

That’s a really nice job especially the boot scuff marks behind the ladders.

Well done Clark.  I have one to build but I bought the later one without the map(post map). Still my era but I don't have any post map ATSF cars.  The car looks good

I see many atsf named train dry transfers at Clover House.  I wonder if there was a pattern, such as:
El Capitan on cars ending in 1
Scout on cars ending in 2
Etc.

Not a pattern, but groups of cars in number sequence, e.g. xxx001 to xxx025 got slogan, then xxx026 to xxx050 got a different slogan.

Super work on this model, Clark! I like those chalk marks near the grabs on the left end of the car sides.

And that number sequence was not of a fixed length, but varied with the number of cars purchased of a given class.

From the most recent edition of the ATSF Painting and Lettering Guide, Fe-21s were all built with the Grand Canyon slogan.  We have yet to unearth the original slogan allocations for the Fe-22s, but examples of cars lettered with Scout, Grand Canyon and Chief slogans are documented.  When cars were repainted, they tried to keep the same slogan, but would apply a different one if the shop didn't have the one already on the car.

For those of you wishing to model a post 1947 repaint, Fe-21 7392 wore Ship and Travel with the El Capitan slogan in Jan 1972.  Since that scheme was discontinued in 1959, it definitely had that applied throughout the '60s.  Fe-22s 7065 and 7137 appeared in undated photos with S&T/El Capitan and Super Chief respectively.  These cars would definitely be wearing the post '45 redder shade of Santa Fe Freight Car Brown, while most of the Map & slogan cars would have been in the earlier browner shade unless they were repainted in late 1945, 1946, or early in 1947 before the S&T change.

Hi Clark:

I hope you are surviving all the increment weather.  Should you decide to put the Santa Fe 7000 auto car on the block I would be ready, money in hand.

Take care:

Bill
