Trying to find a drawing
lrkdbn
Dear group
I am looking for a drawing I saw on line a while back. It is a cut away drawing of a truss rod meat reefer showing the wide variety of products such a car might be carrying -sides of meat ,barrels ,boxes etc.I think the original source was Swift&Co. If anyone knows where to find this,I'd be grateful. Sincerely, Larry King <lrkdbn@...> |

An example of a "peddler car" perhaps?

It was common to load the car with boxes and cans, along with hanging meat. Hanging meat did not fill the car, so shippers took advantage of the space. Think processed products, like hams, bacon, luncheon meats, lard, etc.

I have read the same. A car loaded with “PHP” (packing house products) would have processed meat products, like Doug lists, and often cut meat reduced from sides, all of it stacked on the floor. Might well not have any hanging meat in some cases. |
