VIKING ROOF FOR C&O BOX CARS

For the gentleman asking about this roof I believe that Des Plains Hobbies once offered this as a replacement roof.  It was also used in some of their kits.  There are probably some out there.

I think he was asking if those roofs fit the BRANCHLINE 1937 AAR car body, and the answer is probably not,
because they were made to fit the IMWX (Red Caboose) car body. But with some filing and milling, they probably
could be made to fit. DPH offered the C&O car with Viking roof - I may still have that kit.

I just checked the Des Plaines Hobbies site. They list the HO version for $ 5.00.

There are two Des Plaines C&O boxcar kits now on sale on EBay.  These are very nice plastic kits.  I attached a couple of photos of an Erie kit with Viking roof that I built.

I have 8 of the Des Plains cars with the Viking roof, but this Branchline car number has special meaning to me because of my friend Paul and his fondness of these cars. This morning I was able to locate one of my Des Plains cars and it fits very well into the Branchline car. Only difference is that the width of the Branchline body is slightly wider (about .015") than the IMWX body. I can live with this.

The mentioned wider width of the BL box cars makes the replacement of the BL Yardmaster '37 AAR end with the equivalent Intermountain (which has no molded on ladders/brake) a problem. Otherwise the Yardmaster single stringer underframe is an earlier design than both the IMWX and Branchline frames (these 2 '37 AARs have a pair of longitudinal stringers but are spaced incorrectly apart).
