Rock Island auto cars 159000-159249 series - roof and usage
4 messages
I am wondering if anyone knows the type of roof this series have? Looks radial and with thirteen transverse ribs, unsure of the type. Cars look to have been rebuilt with roof raised, and widened doors

Union Pacific wreck clean up video
This movie popped up on YouTube and has some great roof shots at the wreck site. There is some nice color footage of the cars as well. Also some early 60s? footage of 844 excursion and putting 4004 in

Why were gondolas more popular in the west for hauling minerals than hoppers?
36 messages
Western railroads had a preference for gondolas than hoppers which were more common in the east. Was it due to mineral traffic or just gondolas being more universal than hoppers?

Hello everyone, Curious what I can learn of bulk shipments composed of multiple boxcars going from the same origin-destination points and typically staying together the whole time. Reefer/tank/hopper

Certainly not a big deal but I was looking at my Tangent Warren tankcar and noticed the prototype images the railing is dark (black?) and the model has it as white. Guess I’ll get the black paint out…

I posted this question a while back without any success so I'm giving it another shot. I am working on completing a Santa Fe Ga-53 50 foot mill gondola. There was a great set of drawings in a 1957 Mod
